The Big Bang Theory: 7/10 – Enjoyable

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory

I recently had the opportunity to watch a megathon of the first and second season of this show. Its uniqueness of characters is what allows this show to succeed. Many of the problems, themes and episodes the show does is formulaic, and would fail without the Sheldon Cooper, Ph.D. The lengthy uptight, condescending genius pulls the show together to make it somewhat successful.

Many of the show’s themes and plots you’ve seen before – but watching these characters do them is awkwardly funny.  The show centers around  Leonard Hofstadter, Ph.D. and Sheldon Cooper, Ph.D., roommates who learn their next door neighbor is a hot young struggling actress Penny ( Kaley Cuoco ). Soon Leonard develops a crush on here, yet Sheldon is there to tell why it will never happen. His analytical mind is the basis for most of the show — and even at some points you can actually learn from his 30 seconds of intellectual ranting.

They live in Pasadena, California and work at the CalTech. Their two friends are, well two more nerds who help to fill cast.

Big Bang Theory Nerds – There is the short, pale Jewish Howard Wolowitz, M.Eng who still lives at home. Yet is very creepy with girls, trying to hard to get with any girl.

Then there is the Rajesh Koothrappali, Ph.D who is the shy Indian guy who can’t talk to girls unless he is drunk. Which posses a problem since Penny is constantly in the scene. Rajesh has to secretly tell Howard what he is thinking to tell Penny.  These characters are weak in my opinion, and only compliment the show – and they are quite predictable most times.

The only unpredictable one is Sheldon, who you can’t predict what type of rhetoric he will say next. The show constantly shows the group’s inability to attract women and their poor social skills, their love for comic books, Star Trek, and all things geek. I think it is mandatory that in the opening scence of the show they are all doing something geeky. But if you can get past that it turns out to be a surprisingly good show with good character developement.
