It seems like we’re all looking for ways to trim unnecessary costs out of our lives. You may have reduced your latte runs or limited your shoe budget, but have you taken a look at how much you’re spending on your cable bill? Perhaps you are paying for services you really don’t use, like On-Demand or movie channels. Here are some tips for cutting your cable bill:
Review your service
What are you paying for? Do you use it? Make sure it’s really worth the money. If you haven’t used the feature in a month or more it may be time to cut it.
Stop paying for movie channels
You may be able to get a better deal through a DVD service like Blockbuster On Demand (http://www.blockbuster.com/) or Netflix (http://www.netflix.com/). Plus you’ll get to pick the movies you want to watch. Better yet, check out your local library. They have a large collection of DVD’s you can check out for free.
Threaten to drop your cable provider
Just the mention of leaving will have them offering to lower your bill. They want to keep your business and they’ll work to make that happen (might not always work, but worth a try).
Try hooking your computer up to your TV
We recently figured out how to hook our laptop up to our television. For about $50 worth of cables we can now watch television shows and movies that are free on the Internet. One site worth checking out is hulu.com (http://www.hulu.com/). It’s ad-supported streaming television shows and movies. Get your fix of The Office or the National Poker Championships whenever you want to watch. And it’s free!
