How to Save Money on Your Coffee Fix

I admit it. I’m addicted. Coffee is a weakness for me. While I realize that my $4 lattes can add up quickly to be a major budget buster I am just not ready to give up my vice. I am willing to seek out bargains in the world of coffee, however. Here are some ways I’ve discovered to have my coffee and not feel guilty about it.

  1. Sign up for Starbucks Card Rewards. By registering a Starbucks gift card on their website and using that to buy your drinks, you’ll get lots of perks, including a free drink just for signing up. You’ll also get free in-house refills on brewed coffee, free syrup in some drinks, free beverage with a whole bean purchase AND up to two free hours of wi-fi every day.
  2. Go during happy hour. Dunkin Donuts offers coffee drinks for just $.99 after 2pm. This is a big savings and a good way to get your coffee fix without breaking the bank.
  3. Become a barista. Paying a couple of hundred bucks on an espresso machine probably sounds extravagant to some, but it’s paid off in my house. I start every morning brewing lattes at home and it definitely cuts down on my coffee shop trips.
  4. Try a low-cost drink. Like iced lattes? Try an iced coffee with cream and a little syrup instead. The drink will save you at least $1, maybe more and it’s a nice change.
  5. Split a drink. A friend of mine passed on a secret that a Starbucks barista gave her. Rather than ordering two tall vanilla lattes, the worker suggested getting a venti split in two glasses. This saved them a couple dollars and gave them just about the same amount of coffee. This only works if you have a friend that likes the same drink.
